Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Hearing Loss Prevention Branch intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Eckel Industries, Inc., Cambridge, Massachusetts to furnish, deliver and install a 200-hertz cutoff supersoft chamber at the Pittsburgh facility. The Hearing Loss Prevention Branch requires a hemi-anechoic test facility for the development of engineering noise controls for construction and mining equipment. A hemi-anechoic chamber often consists of acoustic wedges attached to a concrete wall or similar structure. In a hemi-anechoic environment, the measured sound levels are due to sound radiated directly from the object under test. The acoustic treatments absorb the sound impinging on the walls. The reverberant sound energy is therefore, negligible with regard to the measured sound levels. This facility will greatly reduce the time and cost associated with developing engineering noise controls. Eckel Industries is the manufacturer of a unique treatment for hemi-anechoic chambers called the Supersoft Panel. The Supersoft Panel is protected by a perforated steel sheet making it suitable for performing testing that mey generate dust such as tests with roof bolting equipment and meets ISO 3744 Engineering Grade accuracy. This announcement is being issued for informational purposes only; requests for quotations are not available. All responsible sources may submit a response, which shall be considered by the Agency. If any responses are submitted in response to this presolicitation notice and the agency determines to compete this requirement, a RFQ will be issued solely to the responders of this notice. A subsequent presolicitation notice will not be issued. This acquisition is being processed under FAR Part 12, Acquisition of Commercial Items.
