Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Division of Safety Research (DSR), Protective Technology Branch (PTB) has a requirement for knowledge gap analysis on safety engineering and humanfactors research for motor vehicle-related occupational injury prevention. The recipient of this award is to: (1) conduct a literature search for information associated with occupational motor vehicle operation and synthesize published and unpublished information on technologies available to prevent or mitigate the risks related to occupational motor vehicle operation; (2) identify the current knowledge gaps related to occupational motor vehicle safety, specifically requiring advanced safety engineering and human factors research to mitigate the hazards; and (3) develop recmmendations for future research for reducing injuries and fatalities among occupational vehicle operators. Occupational vehicle operations, as defined here, are not limited to workers whose primary job duty is driving (e.g., truck drivers, drivers-sales workers, and drivers of buses, taxis, and package delivery vehicles). Other workers who regularly operate a motor vehicle in performing their jobs are also included (e.g., law enforcement officers, fire apparatus operators, ambulance drivers, military personnel, and sales representatives). All types of vehicles designed to be operated primarily on public roadways are within the scope of this contract. The main focus is on identifying research needs/ideas that will lead to the development of practical engineering controls to reduce injuries and fatalities The injuries and fatalities would include crashes and non-crash related incidents to workers who operate vehicles. This is a simplified acquisition with an estimated value of less than $100,000. The entire scope of work, requirements and evaluation factors will be addressed in the solicitation when issued. This procurement is being issued unrestricted. The NAICS code for this action is 541990. Request for Quotation (RFQ) No. 2005-Q-02023 will be issed on or after June 8, 2005, and proposals will be due by June 17, 2005. No telephone requests for the solicitation will be accepted.
