Description
Interested members of the public are invited to attend a briefing on the Preliminary Study for Experimental Research on Culturally Based Education for American Indian/Alaska Native Students being conducted by the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) under contract with the U.S. Department of Education (USED). The tasks in the preliminary study are: 1. To conduct a review of the literature on the effectiveness of culturally based education. 2. To assess the feasibility of conducting an experiment to test the effectiveness of culturally based education for AI/AN students. 3. Option: If feasible, to design such an experiment. This option was exercised. 4. To hold a symposium on the experimental design. Should a full-scale experimental study prove to be feasible, USED may in the future issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for this work. To assure that potential bidders for such a full-scale experimental study have access to the same body of information about the preliminary study, NWREL will hold three public briefings to describe findings and progress on the preliminary study. The first and second briefings were held in Seattle and Albuquerque on February 24, 2003 and December 15, 2004, respectively. The third and final briefing will be held in Washington, DC on June 7, 2005 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the Concord room at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, 400 New Jersey Avenue NW, Washington, DC, 20001, (202) 737-1234.
