Description

DESCRIPTION: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (1), with United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) for clear view silica fused re-entrant windows capable of allowing manipulation and detection of atoms in a vacuum chamber. Sole source determination is based on UKAEA?s experience in developing sizeable windows that allow sufficient magnetic field development. UKAEA is the sole source manufacturer and provider of 5? clear view windows. Furthermore, purchase of a different size window would not allow for placement of coils necessary for trapping atoms and in some cases limit the scope of our research. The North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 327212, and the size standard is 500 Employees. No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, the government will consider responses received by June 6, 2005. A determination by the Government not to compete the proposal acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
