Description
In the past few years, there has been rapid firm merger and acquisition activity in the United States, and little has been done to capture and understand the effects of this activity on small and large businesses. Therefore, an update and further examination is needed to the Mergers and Acquisition in the United States, 1990-1994, originally completed by Alicia Robb and Catherine Armington in October 1998 (see: ://www.sba.gov/advo/stats/m_a.pdf ). The effects of such activity on businesses differed depending on the size of the firm; for example, small firms involved in acquisition activity generated much more employment than those in large firms, according the earlier analysis. The Office of Advocacy is interested in understanding the rate at which small businesses acquire other firms or are being acquired by larger firms. It is also interested in the level of job creation and/or destruction. Industries prone to mergers and acquisitions should be identified. It would be worthwhile to examine the differences in acquisition or merger rates across states or regions, and how these differences correlate with state economic growth rates. To conduct this research the researcher would need to identify database(s) and methods appropriate for the analysis. Questions and answers for this procurement shall commence on May 30, 2005 and end on June 7, 2005. No questions after June 7, 2005. Questions MUST be email to the Contracting officer (billy.jenkins@sba.gov). Fax proposals will not be accepted.
