- Description This service project consists of prefelling in the Juneau Creek area. The Juneau project area contains a mosaic of single-storied, mid-aged aspen interspersed with young to mid-aged spruce with small pockets of willow and alder. There is a concern that overall age class diversity within the aspen is lacking, and that in the continued absence of disturbance, spruce/hemlock encroachment will eventually eliminate the aspen within the area. The purpose of this project is to develop age class diversity within the current quaking aspen complex for wildlife habitat improvement in the Juneau Creek area, located about three miles northwest of Cooper Landing. OBJECTIVES Reduce dead spruce fuel created by the spruce bark beetle. Modify fuel loading as specified to facilitate future prescribed burn. Construct fireline as specified around the prescribed burn unit. SCOPE The purpose of the project is to have the contractor furnish all labor, equipment, fuel, oil, transportation (mobilization & demobilization) and supplies to perform pre-felling work and fireline construction necessary to facilitate the Juneau Creek prescribed burn on the Seward Ranger District of the Chugach National Forest. The work consists of tree felling, lop and scatter of felled trees and slash, and fireline construction. LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION Near Cooper Landing, on the Chugach National Forest: T5N, R4W, Section 13, SW ?; T5N, R4W, Section 14, SE ? of SE ?. All responsible sources may submit a bid that will be considered. Award of this project to be accomplished under Full and Open Competition, pursuant to the Small Business Competitiveness Demonstration Program.
