- This service project consists of fuels reduction in the Victor Creek project area. The purpose of this project is to reduce wildland fire potential in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), provide firefighter safety, and improve forest health conditions in the Victor Creek project area. Spruce trees across Alaska have been killed in large numbers by the spruce bark beetle, leaving dead trees across the landscape and a high risk of wildland fires. On the Kenai Peninsula in the Victor Creek area, the forest conditions have been identified to be at an extremely high risk. Implementation of these treatments would substantially reduce the potential for catastrophic wildfires being started or carried through these portions of the Chugach National Forest. OBJECTIVES: Reduce hazardous fuel loads created by spruce bark beetle caused mortality. Enhance vegetative structural diversity and regeneration. SCOPE The purpose of the project is to have the contractor furnish all labor, equipment, fuel, oil, transportation (mobilization & demobilization) and supplies to perform manual fuel reduction work on the Seward Ranger District of the Chugach National Forest. Manual fuel reduction will take place in the Victor Creek project area, north of Victor Creek and east of the Seward Highway. The work consists of tree felling, limbing and bucking. LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION T03N; R1E; Sections 7, 8, 17, 18 All responsible sources may submit a bid that will be considered. Award of this project to be accomplished under Full and Open Competition, pursuant to the Small Business Competitiveness Demonstration Program.
