- It is the intent of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to procure professional services for a range of historical services in related to History of Medicine (HMD)/NLM symposia, most immediately the ?Global Health Histories? symposium scheduled for November 2-4, 2005. The Images and Archives Programs of the History of Medicine Division of the National Library of Medicine acquire, arrange, describe, preserve, and make available for researchers, scholars and other interested persons, primary source materials in the history of medicine, public health, and allied disciplines. A major part of the mission of the Images and Archives Programs and the History of Medicine Division is to promote, conduct, and facilitate scholarly research and public education through seminars, lectures, exhibitions, film programs, and Web sites. To support this goal the History of Medicine Division is sponsoring on a regular basis symposia on medicine, science, and public health histories. Topics for this upcoming event include alternative medicine in both Western and non-Western contexts, disability and health in a global perspective, reproductive and maternal health care in transnational perspective, and sociological and anthropological approaches to global health histories. The evaluation will be based, in addition to price, on a written quotation detailing the demonstrated capabilities of the prospective vendor in relation to the needs of the project as set forth in the following criteria: A) Vendor must have successful experience planning and developing at least two (2) historical symposia, including reviewing abstracts of submitted papers for presentation, recommending potential speakers, and laying the logistical groundwork; B) Vendor must have three to five (3-5) years of successful experience developing Web content, including online exhibits that highlight historical collections in effort to broaden audiences of users; C) Vendor must have at least 2 years of successful experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate-level students. This requirement is for a base year with options for three (3) successive one-year periods. The proposed acquisition will be procured under FAR Part 13 ? Simplified Acquisitions. Request for Quotations (RFQ) Number NLM-05-099-UHP will be available on or about May 20, 2005.
