- NASA/GRC has a requirement for the development of a high-temperature shape-memory alloy based control rod actuator that will be used in a T700 engine test using a NASA developed shape memory alloy. NASA/GRC intends to purchase the control rod actuator from Continuum Dynamics, Inc. 34 Lexington Ave., Ewing, NJ. Lack of competition is due to Continuum Dynamics being the only engineering firm that has developed and demonstrated a small, compact, high-force linear actuator based on shape memory alloy technology consisting of proprietary technology. They are the only company that has experience in designing high-temperture shape memory alloy based actuators utilizing alloys developed at NASA GRC,which are not available commmercially as well as experience in similar work involving previous and ongoing SBIR contracts The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.
