Description: The Contractor shall, under the provisions contained herein; design, fabricate, and deliver to the designated sites ready for installation, three shop-assembled steel bridge superstructures. Two of the superstructures shall be 70 feet long by 14 feet wide and will be installed end-to-end to provide one 140-foot-long bridge. These two superstructures shall be designed for HS30-44 equivalent loading, complete with traffic railing and edge (or side) dams. The length of the superstructures shall be measured out-to-out and the width shall be the clear distance between the traffic railings. The third superstructure shall be 50 feet long by 14 feet wide and shall be designed for HS20-44 loading and be complete with timber wheel guards, a timber wearing surface and edge dams. The length of the superstructure shall be measured out-to-out and the width shall be the overall width of the deck. All three superstructures shall be fabricated either in one piece or in two pieces with a longitudinal joint along the centerline. Quality Certification: The superstructures shall be designed and fabricated by a company regularly engaged in the manufacture of pre-engineered bridges and currently certified by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) in accordance with Section 11.1.1, Division II, "Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges, Seventeenth Edition, 2002" by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). The fabricator shall be certified to have the personnel, organization, experience, capability, and commitment to produce fabricated structural steel for the category "Simple Steel Bridges" as set forth in the AISC Quality Certification Program. Quality control shall be in accordance with procedures outlined for AISC Certification. Design Specifications: The bridge superstructures shall be designed in accordance with AASHTO's "Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges, Seventeenth Edition, 2002" or "LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, U.S., 3rd Edition (2004)" and any subsequent interim specifications. Qualifications of Design Personnel: The superstructures shall be designed by or under the direct supervision of a registered professional engineer experienced in the design of such work. Structure Type: The superstructures shall each be a steel, multi-beam/multi-stringer type of structure. Live Load: The 70-foot-long superstructures shall be designed for HS30-44 equivalent live load plus Impact, I=50/(L+125), L=span length. The 50-foot-long superstructure shall be designed for HS20-44 plus Impact. Maximum impact = 30%. The deflection for live load plus impact shall not exceed 1/800 of the span. Structural Steel: The superstructure shall be fabricated from high-strength low-alloy structural steel conforming to the requirements of AASHTO -270 (ASTM Standard Specification A 709), Grade 50W.
