- US Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, intends to procure an acoustic detection/gate control system to serve as manatee protection systems to be installed on six water control structures located in south Florida. The contractor will proc ure a fully functional system and all material, labor, and equipment to install, and test the systems for marine life detection and gate control. The water control structures shall use acoustic devices embedded in standardized sensor cartridges to be inst alled on the water control structure gates. The system shall be capable of detecting a manatee between the closing gates of the structure, sending a signal to activate audio and visual alarms, actuating gate controls to stop the closing gates, and opening the gates slightly to allow the manatee to pass safely. This detection system shall be capable of interfacing with the gate operational control systems located in the machinery housing on the structure grounds. Dewatering of the selected structures will be performed by Government personnel prior to the initiation of installation. The contractor shall have the acoustic sensing device calibrated and tested prior to the final installation. The contractor shall have the equipment, parts, and labor available for installation of the sensing devices and electronic boxes and controls at each structure prior to the start of dewatering. This acquisition is UNRESTRICTED. All businesses are encouraged to respond. Solicitation W912EP-05-R-0001 will be issued on or a bout 03 June 2005 with offers due on or about 07 July 2005.
