Description
GSA ANNOUNCES HISTORIC PROPERTY PRESERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY San Francisco, California - The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) invites the public to a property tour (1st floor and courtyard) at 5:15 pm and a general information meeting on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. in Room 120 on the 1st Floor of 50 United Nations Plaza, San Francisco, California. The purpose of the meeting is to explain GSA?s proposed process for non-Federal government investment to restore, reuse and long-term lease of the historic Federal office building located at 50 United Nations Plaza. The property would become available for long-term outlease under Section 111 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1976 with any potential uses subject to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969. The process will be described under a Request for Qualification and Adaptive Use (RFQ&U) that is to be issued after the public comment period. GSA welcomes public comment and input into the RFQ&U process and will be accepting written comments at the meeting and until June 30, 2005. Written comments can be sent to Zhanna Odesskiy, GSA, Public Building Service, San Francisco Service Center, 450 Golden Gate Avenue, 3-E, San Francisco, CA; fax: (415) 522-3116 or email: zhanna.odesskiy@gsa.gov. The Federal Office Building at 50 United Nations Plaza is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is an integral part of the Civic Center landmark district. The property was completed in 1936, in a Beaux Arts style, by renowned San Francisco architect, Arthur Brown, Jr., who also designed four other major structures in Civic Center including City Hall. The property, comprises 6 stories of approximately 350,000 gross square feet, is located on the southeast corner of Hyde and McAllister Streets with a main entrance fronting onto United Nations Plaza, a pedestrian mall and open market area. Since the building is a secured federal facility, all visitors are subject to weapons screening and must present valid California identification such as a Drivers License. Please note that due to security concerns, visitors may not be allowed to enter the property after 6:15 pm.
