Description
Notice of Intent to issue single source award to Hedgerow Farms for the purchase San Joaquin Variety (or genotype) of creeping wildrye seed. In order to establish creeping wild rye on the acreage affected by the fire, 2015 pounds of seed will need to be purchased. This seed will be planted on approximately 310 acres of the refuge (6.5lbs/acre). It is critical that only the San Joaquin Variety (or genotype) of creeping wildrye is purchased and planted during this project, as it is cultivated from a seed source found on the San Joaquin River NWR. This variety is native to the project area and locally adapted to site conditions. No other varieties or genotypes will be accepted. There are very few nurseries in California that cultivate and sell large quantities of this seed. The San Joaquin Variety is currently only available at Hedgerow Farms in Winters, California. Due to these constraints, purchasing seed from a single dealer may be the only option available. PLACE/DELIVERY AND PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE: San Joaquin NWR, 3818 Dairy Rd., Vernalis, CA, 95385 Seed will be delivered after purchase to the San Joaquin NWR in late summer, soon after it is harvested. A more precise time is unavailable as the timing of seed harvest is effected climatic conditions. Seed will be planted in fall 2005 after the first rains of the season. INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE: All seed will be inspected and approved by the wildlife biologist overseeing the project. Percent live seed (P.L.S.), documented through a seed analysis, will be no less than 65%. TECHNICAL COORDINATOR: Ken Griggs, Wildlife Biologist San Luis NWRC P.O.
