Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute on Aging (NIA) has a requirement to maintain an existing bank of fresh-frozen tissues obtained from aged rodents. These tissues will be available for use by NIA investigators. The work to be performed includes receiving mice and rats from NIA colonies. The number of animals to be sent to tissue collection each year is estimated to be at 200 animals per year, in groups of five animals per week. The animals shall be maintained for three days under conditions where they will not be exposed to disease or other animals. The animals shall be euthanized and various tissues shall be collected and frozen. All tissues shall be stored at –70 to –80 degrees Celsius. Tissues shall be shipped to various organizations and individuals as directed by the NIA. The Contractor will be required to prepare master blocks of tissue arrays estimated at one tissue array per year. The Offeror should have experience in handling rodents, as well as in the collection and cryopreservation of rodent tissue for biological analysis. If necessary, the Contractor shall be required to transfer the existing aged rodent tissue bank holdings from the existing contract to the Contractor’s facilities. The transfer shall be accomplished in such a way to prevent any thawing of frozen tissues. The current contract consists of approximately 6,000 frozen tissue samples and 500 glass slides. A five year, completion type, cost-reimbursement type contract using performance based initiatives is anticipated. THE SOLICITATION WILL BE AVAILABLE ELECTRONICALLY ONLY. It will be available on this website on or about 15 calendar days from the date of the publication of this synopsis. OFFERORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ROUTINELY CHECKING THIS WEBISTE FOR ANY POSSIBLE SOLICITATION AMENDMENTS THAT MAY BE ISSUED. NO INDIVIDUAL NOTIFICATION OF ANY AMENDMENTS WILL BE PROVIDED. All responsible sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered. No collect calls will be accepted.
