Description: Preservation Treatment of Historic Chimneys, Salem Maritime National Historical Site, Salem Massachusetts. Solicitation Number N1900050012. The work to be executed under this contract consists of evaluating existing conditions, and recommending and executing preservation repairs to eight brick masonry chimneys on various historic structures located in both Salem and Saugus, Massachusetts. These include the Derby House (1763) and the Narbonne House (1675) at the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, and the Iron Works House (1681) at the Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site. Preservation treatments may include, but are not necessarily limited to, masonry repointing, resetting and rebedding of loose units, furnishing appropriate replacement units where originals are missing or deteriorated beyond use, and selective rebuilding. Preservation repairs may also include patching or replacement of renderings on chimney stems exposed within attics or above respective rooflines. In addition, preservation repairs may also include augmentation or selective replacement of flashings, caps, and sealants. The National Park Service anticipates entering into a firm fixed-price construction contract as a result of this solicitation. This acquisition is subject to P.L.100-656, Small Business Competitive Demonstration Program, and as such is open to all concerns regardless of size. The NAICS code for this project is 238140 with a small business size standard of $12 million. The contract performance period is 250 calendar days following Notice to Proceed. In accordance with FAR Section 36.204, the estimated price range for this project is between $100,000 and $250,000. Contractors are urged to make a site visit to ascertain existing work conditions. It is anticipated a pre-proposal conference will be held Mid-June 2005, further details will be described in the solicitation. All interested offerors are encouraged to attend.
