Description
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), plans to procure on a sole source basis an Axon Genepix 4000B Microarray Scanner from Molecular Devices, 1311 Orleans Drive, Sunnyvale, California 94089. This acquisition will be conducted under the procedures for acquiring commercial items authorized in FAR Part 12 as the authority to use simplified procedures for commercial requirements provided in FAR Part 13.5. The North American Industry Classification System Code is 334516 and the business size standard is 500 employees. The NCI CCR Office of Science and Technology Partnerships requires the Axon 4000B microarray scanner. This purchase will allow NCI/CCR Researchers to maintain the compatibility of the data analysis already being received by NimbleGen. The NimbleGen arrays are very specialized in that the size of the oligonucleotide features (5 microns) on their microarrays is so small that only certain scanners have the resolution to allow acceptable imaging and quantification of the signals produced. Molecular Devices is the only source known that can provide the Axon Genepix 4000B microarray scanner which is the most compatible scanner in using the NimbleGen microarrays. The existing scanner that NimbleGen scientists are currently using in their in-house microarray service core is the Axon Genepix 4000B. Changing the scanner for future microarrays will change the variables and will interrupt correct interpretation of the studies being currently performed. This is not a solicitation for competitive quotations. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirement, they may submit a statement of capabilities. All information furnished shall be in writing and must contain sufficient detail to allow the NCI researcher to determine if it can meet the above unique specifications described herein. An original and one copy of the capability statement must be received in the contracts office by 1:00 PM EST on May 9, 2005. All questions must be in writing and can be faxed to (301) 402-4513 or emailed to holdcram@exchange.nih.gov. It is the vendor?s responsibility to call (301) 402-4509 to insure questions have been received. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No collect calls will be accepted. All correspondence must state solicitation number NCI-50042-NG.
