Description
The above referenced BAA is modified to include a new Focal Challenge -- SRS ARCHITECTURE STUDY. This modification will solicit a small scale study for the existing IPTO program, Self-Regenerative Systems (SRS). The SRS program began during the summer of 2004. Information about SRS can be found on the web at: http://www.tolerantsystems.org/SRSProgram/srs_program.html. The current program focuses on biologically-inspired diversity, cognitive immunity and regeneration, scalable redundancy, and reasoning about insider threats. If successful, these technical thrust areas will provide building blocks for new self-regenerative systems. Building blocks alone, however, will not by themselves constitute a system. A system architecture is also required. A number of concerns will affect the SRS architecture such as formulating architectural structures for exploiting new building blocks, bases for confidence, and boundaries between architectural elements that can be generic and those that must be customized for a specific mission. As many as two independent architecture studies for SRS will be funded. The size and duration of each of these efforts will be 4 FTE months spread over 2 calendar months. The studies should be completed before the end of August, 2005. The study authors should plan on attending the July SRS PI meeting in the Washington DC area. Study authors should feel free to contact the current SRS performers to discuss their ideas. GENERAL INFORMATION: For those who intend to submit directly in response to this modification to BAA 02-21, Focal Challenge: SRS Architecture Study, the following dates are relevant: Abstracts are due by 12:00 NOON (ET), May 11, 2005. Proposals are due by 12:00 NOON (ET), June 3, 2005. It is strongly encouraged that abstracts be submitted in advance of full proposals. An offeror who submits an abstract will receive an email encouraging or discouraging the submission of a full proposal. Abstracts should be brief (no more than five pages) and should sketch one or more architectural ideas that you wish to develop in more detail in the study. The abstract should also include a cost estimate (a single number). The output for a study should be a report describing the architecture in as much detail as possible and justifying the choices made. Cover sheets, as described in the basic BAA and Proposer's Information Pamphlet, should indicate the SRS Architecture Study Focal Challenge as the BAA technology area for which the proposal is submitted. Three hard copies and two electronic copies must be submitted to the address contained in the basic BAA. Text should be at least 12 point, and page margins should be at least 1 inch. Offerors are still encouraged to submit other proposals addressing the issues in the basic BAA and to periodically check the Federal Business Opportunities and the IPTO Solicitation web page for possible new Focal Challenges and other modifications.
