Description
U.S. General Services Administration Region 1 Contact: Kathryn Thomas (617) 565-8826 04/19/2005 GSA SELECTS ARCHITECT FOR DESIGN OF THE RENOVATION OF AN EXISTING BORDER STATION LOCATED IN DERBY LINE, VERMONT Kieran Timberlake Associates LLP of Philadelphia, PA was chosen from among five Architect/Engineer Firms in a Two-Stage Design Excellence selection process. The United States Port Facilities at Derby Line are located on U.S. Interstate 91 at the International Border separating Vermont and the Canadian Province of Quebec. The proposed site surrounds the existing border station with associated secondary buildings, parking areas and State Highway rights- of-way. This proposed project will be a state-of-the-art facility and should make a distinct architectural statement responsive to the environment and representative of the character and stature of a federal building. The Border Station renovation project will provide new port facilities, including the Main Port, commercial, non-commercial and Agency vehicle garages, the demolition of existing Port buildings and completion of site improvements in the area of the existing building. In making its selection, GSA used a two-stage Design Excellence procurement process. In the first stage, thirty-eight design firms submitted examples of their work and identified a lead designer with his/her portfolio and recently completed work by the firm. From those submissions, an A/E selection panel identified five firms to move onto the stage-two interview phase. The firms and their lead designers were invited to assemble complete A/E teams. The GSA A/E selection panel selected Kieran Timberlake Associates LLP, 420 North 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130.
