Description
Benet Laboratories, a division of US Army TACOM, has a requirement for a high performance compute server capable of solving a mix of large scale structural mechanical, computational fluid dynamic, physical and chemical modeling and simulation problems. This system is required to execute existing modeling and simulation software currently in use at Benet Laboratories to include primarily (but not exclusively): 1.2.1. Abaqus Standard and Explicit, 1.2.2. Fluent, 1.2.3. Matlab, 1.2.4. LMS Virtual Lab, 1.2.5. OOPIC, 1.2.6. In-house developed Fortran, C, and C++ software to perform various blast dynamics solutions. Benet Laboratories currently operates a heterogeneous computing environment that includes a Silicon Graphics 8-processor 2100 mini-computer, a 32 processor Intel Xeon based Linux NetworX compute cluster, and Intel based engineering and scientific workstations. The Storage environment consists of a Hitachi Data Systems Storage Area network and servers running Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 operating system. The storage environment consists of a Hitachi Data Systems Storage Area network and servers running Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 operating system. The primary purpose of the system is to simultaneously solve approximately six 1-to-4 processor Abaqus Standard jobs with typical sizes ranging up to several hundred thousand nodes. In conjunction with these Abaqus Standard jobs, the system will be used interactively in support of the remaining applications listed above. Balanced Scientific & Engineering computing systems are considered to be those with the appropriate combinations of processors, memory, I/O, internal and networking communication, direct-attached storage and uninterruptible power supplies that fully satisfy both system and user needs - all permitting the system to sustain processing operations at high levels of system utilization for the Benet workload as characterized above. Minimum configuration shall include: 16 processors, 2 Gb per processor/32 Gb total Random Access memory, 1 terabyte Direct Attached Storage (DASD), High Speed processor interconnect, Uninterruptible Power Supply to support all compute nodes and master, Rack-mount 15 in. LCD monitor, keyboard, & mouse, Qlogic Fiber Channel controller SAN Blade 2Gb single port interface or equivalent, Dual port Gigabit Ethernet controller, DVD/CD-ROM drive, Rack and Rack mounting hardware to contain all configured equipment, Management software to monitor performance, CPU usage, disk I/O, file system usage, Kernel & OS informationm, load, memory usage, Network information & bandwith, Swap usage, etc., on-site installation, integration, and training, 12 month full support contract to include 1 year hardware warranty, unlimited online support, automatic software update notification, 24 hour parts replacement, shipping and delivery to end user site. More specific detail to be incorporated in the request for quotation to be published on or about 9 May 2005. or about May 9, 2005.
