Description
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) intends to award a Purchase Order on a sole source basis to Mr. Erik Gorman to perform glass fabrication and specifically fabricating taper devices for the research that is being performed by the FDA in the Center for Devices and Radiological Health. Mr. Erik H. Gorman has a Bachelor?s Degree in Biochemistry from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA and has received an A.A. degree in Scientific Glass Technology from Salem Community College, Salem, NJ. He has experience in glass work at Kontes Glass Company in Vineland, NJ. Over the past three years he has learned the special needs associated with hollow waveguide construction for the mid-infrared work that is done by the FDA. He has become familiar with the glass fabrication needs of the FDA and has experience fabricating the type of taper devices that are needed in order to proceed with the continuation of the research in this area. In addition, he has knowledge of the type of experiments that the devices will help measure and will be able to assist with laser measurements of photobiology. He has become accustomed to work in the morgue to test fiber optic transmission in real tissue and has assisted with measurements on rodents. He has experience with the design of Kogame photonic crystal structures and has made test pre-forms of this design. In order for the continuity of services and the specific expertise in this area to be continued without a loss of time and additional funds, this work must be awarded on a sole source basis to Erik Gorman. This is not a formal request for quotes. However, the evaluation of other offers and any award decision will be made on a best value basis. The FDA intends to make an award immediately after the response date of this notice.
