Description

Sources Sought. This is not a solicitation; this is a sources sought synopsis only. NSF intends to solicit this project as a Small Business Set Aside. However, for the purposes of this sources sought, all capable business sizes may respond. The purpose of this sources sought synopsis is to gain knowledge of potential qualified sources for the fabrication and instillation of library shelving. The NAICS code for this requirement is 337215 Showcase, Partition, Shelving, and Locker Manufacturing. The size standard is 500 employees. Requirement Description: NSF is looking to maximize the storage capacity of its 980 sq ft (8'6"x36'5"x24'7") library. This objective can be achieved through redesign of the area, new shelving alternatives or a combination of both. The library anticipates a growth rate of 5% per year. The floor load capacity throughout the library was designed to carry 200 P.S.F. NSF is seeking companies that can propose the best alternative to achieve the objective. A site-visit for this requirement has been scheduled for Tuesday March 29, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. for all interested parties. Please contact the contracting officer identified in this notice to register. Any questions must be submitted in writing and will be incorporated into the subsequent solicitation. NSF?s physical collection contains approximately 20,000 books, videos, and periodicals, approximately 1,500 cassettes and approximately 50,000 microfiche. The library welcomes approximately 7,800 NSF staff on an annual basis and a minimal number of visitors from the public sector. NSF displays one year?s worth of 180 printed journals, as well as displaying five newspapers for 28 days. The library currently has 14 banks of magazine display shelves; 4 ranges of 9 banks each with 6 shelves per bank, 4 ranges of 7 banks each with 6 shelves per bank. There are 12 banks of reference materials in various locations; one locking cabinet with six shelves of video materials, expansion is needed in this area. Microfilm is maintained in one cabinet with 12 drawers, 5 rows per drawer, maximum capacity is 26 cassettes per row. Microfiche is maintained in one cabinet with 12" deep rows, 6 rows per shelf, 12 shelves; and one cabinet with 24"deep drawers, 2 rows per drawer, 4 drawers. Neither the microfilm nor the microfiche collections are expected to grow. NSF expects growth in the area of CDs and DVDs. The primary objective of this sources sought notice is to identify companies that can provide effective options to increase storage capabilities. However, this requirement also includes the installation of the solution, which will require the unloading, storing and accurate reloading of the library materials within a short specific timeframe. Please be aware of this when assessing company capability to perform this work. Responses to this notice shall include company name, address, point of contact, size of business pursuant to the North American Industrial Classification Code (NAICS), DUNS number, and a schedule number, if services are on a FSS. Responses to this synopsis are requested to determine interest and capability to provide this requirement. The capability package must be clear, concise, complete, and be submitted, in writing, to the contracting officer listed no later than 4:00 p.m. EST April 4, 2005.
