- Westinghouse Savannah River Company (WSRC), managing contractor of the Savannah River Site (SRS) for the U.S. Department of Energy, is soliciting expressions of interest from companies wishing to enter into a Funds-In Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) to further develop the patent-pending Temperature Seal Using an Expanding Ring. Scientists at the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) have designed a sealing device that can act as a high-temperature shutoff valve for pipes and ducts. The passive device can be used to stop the flow of gas or liquid in conditions of sudden overheating. Benefits of this technology include the following: temperature activated, provides circumferential sealing, maintains continuous force, conforms to irregular shapes and surface conditions, and expands to fill large gaps. Any company interested in participating in a Funds-In CRADA must respond with a letter of interest (may be submitted by email) no later that April 21, 2005, summarizing the company?s business and technical expertise and motivation for pursuing this opportunity.
