The technique is detailed debitage (stone flaking debris) using technological analysis based on replicated control assemblages. Must have knowledge and experience with flaked stone artifact (both tools and debitage) analysis from Northern Alaska and some familiarity with Alaskan tool types and terminology as well as Alaskan stone raw material and prehistoric technologies. The detailed debitage analysis will assign flakes to categories which are related to prehistoric behaviours. Minimally: type of force application, blank type, tool or core production strategy, and stage of reduction (including pressure vs percussion flaking) technological classification verified by experimental replication. A written report describing: debitage assemblage, tool technology, macroscopic evidence for tool use/function, tool production sequences, item scale catalog of formed artifacts and debitage listing technological class and raw material type. Mass analysis (size grading), free-standing typologies, and the Sullivan and Rozen Technique (or variation of this techniques) are UNACCEPTABLE analystical approaches for the project. The intent of this project is to have a broader understanding of human history in this geographic area. Vendor will be required to be registered on the Internet with the Centralized Contractor Registry (CCR) prior to award - www.ccr.gov.
