- The Department of State's National Foreign Affairs Training Center, Foreign Service Institute (FSI) provides training and professional development to personnel of the Department of State and the Foreign Service community. The mission of the Area Studies Division of the School of Professional and Area Studies (SPAS) at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) is to provide members of the foreign affairs community with the essential knowledge of the country or region in which they work in order that they may advance the foreign policy objectives of the United States of America. Professional services are requested by the U.S. Government for the development and presentation of a session focusing on the enhancement of cross-cultural skills and understanding necessary for Foreign Service Officers to work effectively as supervisors with U.S. Embassy staff from other cultures. The session, presented 10 times during the year, will be part of the Orientation for Foreign Service Officers program at the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. Department of State.
