Description
The Portland District Army Corps of Engineers is conducting a market survey to determine the availability and potential capability of a businesses willing and able to provide the following service: The Portland District Corps of Engineers is seeking a part-time Professional Cataloger with a masters degree in library science (MLS, MALIS, MLIS, or ML) from an ALA-accredited library school. The librarys technical collection includes publications primarily in the subject areas of engineering, dams, dre dging, navigation, water resource planning, and fisheries. The contract cataloger catalogs books, proceedings, technical reports, AV and electronic materials, and serials in a variety of formats. Much of the specialized material is produced by government agencies and often requires original, full-level (I) cataloging with in-depth subject analysis and authority control. The contract cataloger shall provide cataloging, inventorying, database maintenance, and periodic library coverage support to the Portland District Technical Library, Portland Oregon. The contract cataloger shall be responsible for the following: Edit/copy descriptive cataloging and classification with subject analysis and authority control in OCLC and the Technical Librarys integrated library system (EOSi GLAS at present), using current editions of national standards (LCC, LCSH, AACR2r, MARC 21, etc.) for library materials in print and non-print formats. Processing library materials once cataloged to include barcoding, property stamping, printing and affixing spine and card pocket labels, affixing card pockets, and other standard processing practices. Specialized cataloging using InMagics DB/Text Works (or some other software in the future), including original input to a local research database, abstracting, and exhaustive subject indexing using a locally developed thesaurus. Physically inventorying cataloged collections at regularly established intervals, using a portable barcode scanner and manual practices as needed; following-up with record correction and problem resolution. Providing database maintenance on integrated library system (currently EOSi GLAS), InMagics DB/Text Works, and others as acquired to include (but not limited to) making record corrections; deleting records/holdings in GLAS, InMagic, and OCLC; loading, tes ting, and trouble-shooting new versions of software; assisting with regular software updates/upgrades. Providing periodic library coverage support to include circulation and reference service during open hours of operation when all other library staff members are unavailable (e.g., on leave, in meetings, etc.). Keeping an accurate log of cataloging and other contract activities. The period of performance of this expected contract shall be for one year, with options renewable for four (4) additional one (1) year periods. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) for this requirement is 514120 with a size standard o f $5 million.
