Description
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION Federal Highway Administration INTEGRATED CORRIDOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS INITIATIVE; REQUEST FOR INFORMATION AGENCIES: Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), USDOT. ACTION: Notice; Request For Information. SUMMARY: The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) is seeking information from all sources for its Integrated Corridor Management Systems (ICM) initiative. The ICM initiative is one of the nine major initiatives recently launched by the USDOT?s Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) program to improve transportation safety, and enhance mobility and productivity. Integrated Corridor Management is the coordination of individual network operations between adjacent facilities (e.g., freeway and transit) that creates an interconnected system capable of cross network travel management. The USDOT?s vision is that metropolitan areas will realize significant improvements in the efficient movement of people and goods through effective and proactive integration and management of major transportation corridors. Integrated Corridor Management will result in a reduction of delays, fuel consumption, emissions, and incidents, and an increase in reliability and predictability of travel. The ultimate goal of the ICM initiative is to provide the institutional guidance, operational capabilities, and ITS technology and technical methods needed for effective Integrated Corridor Management Systems. The ICM initiative will identify and close key knowledge gaps in integrated corridor management. The initiative will demonstrate through a successful deployment of corridor management systems how ITS technologies can be used efficiently and proactively to optimally utilize existing corridor capacity through a coordinated effort by the corridor agencies. The initiative will disseminate to the transportation community the information and tools it needs to deploy integrated corridor operations. For more information on the ICM initiative, please refer the Integrated Corridor Management Systems Program Plan and the Integrated Corridor Management Systems Vision, in Appendices A and B, respectively. The documents and information on the initiative may also be viewed at www.itsa.org/icm.html.
