- Description
- Contracting Office Address: AURA-Gemini Observatory, 670 N. A-ohoku Place, Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Point of Contact: Andrew Flach, Gemini Contracts Manager, Phone (520) 749-1560, Fax (520) 203-0237, Email aflach@gemini.edu The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. ("AURA"), acting as operator of the Gemini Observatory, is seeking a vendor to provide an 85 element deformable mirror that will be used in conjunction with the curvature wavefront sensing system in its Near Infrared Coronagraphic Imager (NICI). General specifications for this mirror include generating mirror curvature with at least +- 16 m radius per inner segment (goal of +- 12 m), being compatible with an optical pupil size of ~52 mm that is slightly oval in shape, and having a high quality optical surface to minimize scattered light. Reflected wavefront quality should be consistent with providing a standalone strehl of >94% at 632 nm. This requirement can be met using correctable modes as long as they do not use >10% of the available deformable mirror stroke. The full requirements for this procurement, and instructions for submitting a proposal, will be given in a Request for Proposal to be released in the near future. Firms that are interested in receiving this Request for Proposal should email a letter of interest to Andrew Flach at aflach@gemini.edu by no later than Wednesday February 9 2005. Please reference RFP No. N250150 in the subject line and in the body of the email give the name, address, email address, phone number, and fax number of a contact person at your firm. The Gemini Observatory is an international collaboration to operate two 8 meter telescopes, one located on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, the other located on Cerro Pachon in Chile. The Gemini partners include the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Australia. The Gemini Observatory is operated by AURA under contract with the National Science Foundation.
