Description
GENERAL: The purpose of this contract is to provide rock material for the repair/maintenance of culverts and structures at Herbert Hoover Dam in Okeechobee County, Martin County, and Palm Beach County, Florida. SERVICES: The Contractor shall provide all labor, equipment and materials necessary to provide rock material and gabions to the sites as outlined and in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract. The Contractor shall be responsible to determ ine any road and/or bridge weight restrictions, limitations, or requirements on public highways and/or bridges to the delivery access locations. SITES: The sites applicable to this contract are C-8, S-191, S-135, S-308, C-11, C-16, C-14, C-10A, C-13 and C-10 located in the eastern half perimeter of Lake Okeechobee. At each location rock and gabions shall be delivered as specified and in accordance to the terms and conditions of the contract. SELECT FILL: Select fill shall comply with the criteria listed with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and shall contain no organic matter nor soft, friable particles in quantities considered objectionable by the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). ROCK FOR GABIONS: This rock shall have a unit weight of not less than 135 pounds per cubic foot (saturated surface dry) and shall consist of hard, angular to round, durable and of such quality that they shall not disintegrate on exposure to water or weathering during the life of the structure. Gabion rocks shall range between 4 inches and 8 inches. The range in sizes shall allow for a variation of 5% overs ize and or 5% undersize rock provided it is not placed on the gabion exposed surface. The size shall be such that a minimum of three layers of rock must be achieved when filling the gabions. The material shall be composed of tough durable particles, reas onably free from thin, flat and elongated pieces; and shall contain no organic matter nor soft, friable particles in quantities considered objectionable by the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). GABIONS: Shall be double twisted woven wire mesh box shaped baskets, 3 ftx9 ftx18in. The selvedges of the gabion baskets are the thicker perimeter and edge wires to which the wire mesh is secured as to withstand sudden or gradual stress from any directio n. Reinforcing wires are the thicker wires incorporated in the netting during fabrication. The diaphragms are internal wire mesh partition, which divides the gabion into three cells. Lacing or tie wires is the wire used to assemble and join the gabion un its. Connecting wires are the internal wires used to prevent the gabions from bulging. These gabions shall be manufactured in accordance to ASTM A975-97 guidelines for Double Twisted Hexagonal Mesh Gabions and installed according to manufacturer recommendations. DELIVERIES: Shall be made via maximum 18 cubic yards dump trucks (no tractor-trailer rigs) and shall be coordinated with the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). The deliveries will be received on a scheduled four day work week, Tuesdays thru Friday, from 0700 to 1530, excluding government holidays. All quantities shall be delivered FOB to sites specified with in 120 calendar days after notice of award.
