Description
The systems to be purchased will be used by the US Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory to capture and print images of evidence under microscopic examination. Their firearms division examines and documents bullets, cartridge cases, and a wide variety of toolmark evidence. They use comparison microscopes to compare evidence collected at a crime scene to test fired ammunition and/or test impressions made by questioned tools in the lab. The system will be used to visually document these comparisons. The camera must mount and focus properly on the microscope used by the crime lab. The imaging system components must be compatible with the Leica UFM 4 and/or Reichert comparison microscopes. These microscopes cost many times what this imaging system does and it all has to work together. Line item 2 is for their Trace Evidence Division and will be used for similar purposes to document various types of trace evidence (e.g. hairs, fibers, glass and paint fragments, etc.). It must be compatible with the Leica FS4000 comparison microscope.
