Description
Approximately 55 existing piles shall be removed and approximately 50 piles shall be installed at 6 sites located in The Dalles and John Day Reservoirs and on the John Day River. The site names include Celilo (OR), Giles French (OR), Roosevelt (WA), Plymouth (WA), Philippi (OR), and Le Page (OR). Most of the existing piles are treated wood piles, 12- to 14-inches in diameter, with some steel I-beam piles. Existing piles are embedded from 10 to 20 feet. All removed piles shall become the property o f the contractor and shall be disposed of according to federal and state laws and regulations. New piles to be installed will be government furnished and are 12-inch nominal O.D. steel pipe piles with 0.375-inch wall thickness and 40 feet long. All requi red permits for the work shall be furnished by the government. A Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) shall be provided for all new contracts with the Portland District. For this project the person that will act as the SSHO is required to have a minimum of 3 years safety work on similar projects and a 30-hour OSHA construction safety class, or equivalent, taken within the last 3 years. The SSHO may have other duties for this work that include being the Contractor on-site Project Manager and/or the on-si te CQC Manager or other responsible individual. All work shall be performed during the in-water work period. This solicitation will be available in CD Rom format on or around 20 Jan 2005, and bid opening will be on or around 23 Feb 2005.
