Description
The Department of Defense is requesting information and seeking sources regarding technologies and/or methods for capturing, concentrating and recovering trace quantities of pathogens (bacteria, bacterial spores, virus, parasites) and/or chemicals (t oxins of biological origin, pesticides, industrial waste materials) from water supplies in support of the Joint Chemical Biological Radiological Agent Water Monitor Program. Recovered materials must be suitable for presentation to a sensor. Types of senso rs vary; some examples include immunoassay, PCR, spectrometers, mass spectrometers. Systems that have already integrated recovery and detection are of interest. Some examples of water supplies are lakes, reservoirs, rivers, marine, product water from po rtable water treatment systems, tap water from pipes and storage tanks. Complete and partial solutions are welcome. Desired specifications include, but are not restricted/limited to: Size: briefcase Weight: 15 to 20 lbs Self-contained fluid pathways that are easy to clean, disinfect or discard. Concentration factors of 1:500 to 1:100000. Can handle volumes from 100 liters to greater than 1000 liters. Percent recoveries of 80% and greater. Easy access to recovered sample. Self-check for system integrity. The technology maturity desired is commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS), but research and near term solutions are also of interest. The technology can be either an integrated system, or a high performance component part, such as high throughput peristaltic pu mps, high performance filters, specialty tubing. Technologies or methods that provide faster, more efficient recovery, reduced disposables, reduced costs or smaller physical footprint are of high interest. Examples of other methods include but are not li mited to centrifugation, electrophoresis, and field flow fractionation. This is a sources sought notice for planning purposes only. This is not a solicitation and does not obligate the Government to issue a solicitation. Any interested parties must submit and concise information showing a superior understanding of fundamental problems and technology solutions. Interested firms should submit literature/brochures not exceeding thirty pages describing their technical capabilities, item design details and operational characteristics, production capacity (monthly sustainable produc tion rate, maximum production rate, and time frame for first and subsequent deliveries, location of manufacturing facilities, and unit production costs as available/applicable. Interested parties should respond by February 18, 2005 to Mrs. Sherry Compton, Contract Specialist, at sherry.compton@us.army.mil. Responses should include the interested source company name, complete address, CAGE Code, size of business (large/small) and a technical point of contact with phone number and email address. Any informat ion submitted by respondents to this survey is strictly voluntary. The Government will not pay for any information submitted in response to this sources sought survey. All proprietary information should be marked as such.
