Description
Major General Fred D. Robinson, Chairman of the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Integrated Process Team (JIEDDIPT) invites you to participate in a conference focused on meeting the threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) to be held on N ovember 18, 2004. This one-day Conference will be at the SECRET level. The Conference will provide industry with critical information on the IED threat, promote the exchange of information with industry, and support future IED solicitations. The Confere nce Agenda will feature overview briefings of the IED threat and the DoD response in the morning. Five breakout sessions focused on the following five tenets are planned in afternoon: (a) Predict/Preempt Activities that contribute to detection through forecast of specific enemy operations; (b) Detect Activities that contribute to the location and identification of enemy devices and handlers, carriers, and detonators either pre or post device initiation/detonation; (c) Prevent Activities that disrupt the mechanisms and structures that support enemy operations; (d) Neutralize Activities that contribute to the destruction, reduction, or safe removal of the emerging threat device/object; and (e) Mitigation Activities that contribute to the reduction of the emerging threat effect on its intended target after initiation/detonation. In addition to providing a better understanding of the IED challenge facing the Department, there will be time on the agenda to meet one-on-one with individuals from the JIE DDIPT to discuss specific threats, potential technical solutions, and to obtain initial industry feedback. The conference is being held at Fort Belvoir, Virginia at the Defense Acquisition University. Because of limited seating we are requesting that no more than three individuals from any one company or business unit of large firms register for the conference. To register or find out more about the Conference, go to http://www.acq.osd.mil/actd/IEDIOC2004/. Registration will remain open until capacity o f the conference facility is reached.
