- On November 5, 2004 the Robins Air Force Base 78th Services Division Smith Community Center is hosting its Pumpkin Launch Contest. All Robins AFB employees, dependents, retirees and their families are encouraged to bring out their pumpkins to the Skeet Range and launch them in the air. There will be two categories in which you can enter for the event, the catapult category and the launch category. For the catapult category contestants will build their own catapults. These catapults are to be mechanical, not combustible. They will be brought out to the Skeet Range and judged on appearance and then tested for firing accuracy. First place will be awarded for the best looking catapult and for the one with that fires best for distance. We will also have a Pumpkin Bungee Launch set up where customers may brig out their old Halloween pumpkins and fire for distance. This will be $1 per shot and the pumpkins must weigh 5 lbs or less. The contestant with the greatest distance will be presented with the Pumpkin Bungee Launch trophy. We would like to partner with companies who are interested in providing cash and/or in-kind for the trophies we wish to give away to our winners.
