Description
The New York District Corps of Engineers is seeking from the industry information and availability regarding TAPERED steel piles that must meet the following specific requirements and salient characteristics: tapered form, cross-sectional area, secti on modulus, and 50 ksi hot-rolled steel. The Tapered steel piles will be used to construct an A-FRAME ANCHORAGE UNIT. An A-frame anchorage unit as defined for the purposes of this project, shall consist of a single concrete-filled tapered steel compressio n pile, driven at a batter toward the Passaic River and two concrete-filled tapered steel tension piles, driven at an opposite batter of the compression pile. The compression pile is situated between the two tension piles, effectively fashioning a tripod. Tapered steel piles are necessary because the present design specifications required the highest values of these parameters to adequately sustain the compression and tension anchorage loads; they have the highest KHC - ratio of horizontal to vertical effe ctive stress side of element when in compression, plus, they have the highest KHT - ratio of horizontal to vertical effective stress side of element when in tension. The Gov't. issues this survey to determine if the industry has any available alternative/ substitute piles to those comparable to the piles known in the industry as Tapertube Piles that shall meet the aforementioned requirements. All questions and/or responses shall be forwarded to Ed Lew, via e-mail at edward.t.lew@usace.army.mil by the due d ate as identified.
