- Description
- This notice is a combined synopsis/solicitation, Notice of Intent. The Midwest Area for the Agricultural Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture intends to issue an award to NimbleGen Systems Inc., 1 Science Court, Madison, WI 53711. This is a sole source procurement under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. NimbleGen's light-directed, maskless synthesis (MAS) technology of the high-density microarrays is proprietary. This technology allows for rapid re-design of arrays at no additional cost. A major goal of the research is to investigate the extent and significance of alternate intron splicing in fungi. Due to the similarities of the splicing isoforms, only the microarray array technologies employed by NimbleGen that utilize multiple oligonucleotides per gene will provide the required resolution. The microarray will contain up to 240,000 unique 24-mer oligonucleotide probes where each sequence is represented by 12 probes. Data obtained from experiments will be used to design new arrays accordingly. In addition, probes can be clustered to create features of different spot sizes. Instead of physically manufactured masks, a NimbleGen computer file controls the micromirrors that create the array. This will provide us with the required flexibility to fine-tune the array design through iterative processes. This technology will allow us to significantly minimize the upfront costs for custom, high-density array development. Therefore, no other procurement will meet this need. The Mycotoxin Research Unit (MTX), NCAUR, Peoria, IL requires the microarray contain 12 probes per gene. Microarray must be able to include enough features to assess up to 20,000 sequences. Technology must allow multiple array designs. Probe selection must involve proven probe selection strategy. No telephone inquiries will be accepted. Interested parties should submit written (mail or email) responses including prices and technical data sufficient to determine capability to meet the entire requirement and must be received in this office within 10 calendar days after publication of this notice. It should be noted that no contract will be awarded on the basis of offers received in response to this notice, but will be used to determine if a comparable source more advantageous to the Government is available. If no affirmative written responses are received, negotiations will be held with NimbleGen without further notice. This acquisition is being conducted under the Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act, Simplified Acquisition Procedures.
