Federal Security Clearance Required Moderator: TDB Presenter: Chad Stacker Doing business with the government often requires that companies provide personnel with clearances to access classified information. In order to provide cleared personnel, the company itself must be cleared by the government. Once it is cleared, it must abide by the rules and regulations of the National Industrial Security Program (NISP). This session will provide an overview of the NISP in general, and it will focus on the facility clearance process in particular. We will address questions such as which comes first, the contract or the clearance; my employees have clearances, can they access classified information even though my company is not cleared; and who must request that my company be cleared, and how do they do that? The U.S. Small Business Administration is working to help small businesses obtain more contracts from government and industry. While driving contracts to small businesses will strengthen our economy, it will also help organizations like yours achieve small and minority business contracting goals. Contracts that develop from meetings held at the Business Matchmaking events will be our measure of success. Business Matchmaking Event The matchmaking events provide a unique opportunity for small businesses to present product and service solutions to buyers through prescheduled one-on-one appointments with procurement managers. The event is NOT an opportunity to trade business cards, as is the case with traditional trade shows. Instead it is a REAL chance for small businesses to meet with public and private organizations for procurement opportunities. Through these matchmaking events we anticipate small businesses competing for millions of dollars in contracts from the private and public sector. What do the events include? One-on-one pre-set appointments between suppliers (small businesses) and buyers (federal/state/local government agencies and private organizations) for 15 minutes per meeting. Educational sessions covering a variety of topics (for example: how to qualify to contract with the federal government, how to gain access to capital, how to start/expand trading internationally, and more...). Federal, state, local government and private industry representatives on site to discuss services, such as SBA financing, federal qualification requirements, minority and women-owned business tools and more. How will the appointments be established? Buyers will supply their commodity buying needs and small businesses will provide their profile information. Matches will be established based on the NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) codes each party provides. Small Business Administration will schedule Individual 15-minute appointments with buyers and small businesses who match their NAICS code. To help ensure meaningful appointments, small businesses will be unable to schedule meetings with buyers who don't match the firms NAICS code.
