- NOTE: To extend Response Date to September 7, 2004 at 2:00pm original date was September 6, 2004 which is a Holiday. The Library of Congress as requirement for preservation/achival services to re-house pre 1900 American Maps into alkaline buffered folders for the Georgrapy & Map Divisin of the Library of Congress. Many of the Library's holding are housed in poor quality acidic folders, boxes and sleeves. Acids cause the containers to become brittle and then migrate to and destory items inside of the containers. These acidic enclosures shall be replaced with acid-free enclosures that will be provided by the Library. Requirements include retrieval of maps from flat files, removal of maps, from acidic folders, and return of mpas to flat files. It is anticipated that approx. 30,000 maps will be re-housed. All work will be performed onsite. Personnel requirements include professional archivists with a degree from an accredited Master of Science program in Library and Information Science, or Archives Management, or related equivalent; proven experience inarchives, demonstrated familiarity with archival best practices, and holding maintenance/preservation activities/Services.
