- Description
- The NAWCAD In-Flight/Crashworthiness Division is seeking information from potential industry sources regarding either developmental or Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) technologies that can provide improvements to Mobile Aircrew Restraint Systems for Crash & Fall protection. Candidate platforms include both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft that include mobile crewmembers. Systems are desired that have application to large cabin aircraft to provide continuous restraint while preventing mobile occupants from being ejected during a crash or from falling through large openings, doors, ramps, etc. While COTS equipment is of particular interest, all candidate technologies that may meet Mobile Aircrew Restraint requirements are sought. Technologies will be evaluated for their ability to provide both crash and fall protection for mobile crewmembers while still allowing crewmembers to perform all required mission tasks. Webbing retraction devices are sought that will sense and lock during both crash and fall events. Technologies shall be inclusive of harnesses, retractor and automatic locking systems, lanyards, snap hooks, automatic water release fittings, and emergency attachment/disconnect fittings. The technology should be easily retrofitted into existing and future Naval and joint service aircraft. The technology should also have a quick release and have quick installation procedures. Systems and their components should be able to carry a minimum tensile load of 5,000lbs. The technology can be presented as a total system or as subcomponents of the total system. As an incentive the technology is also sought that is adaptable to automatic release of the system when submerged in water to allow for rapid emergency egress. All candidate technologies should be suitable for use in military applications and associated environments, and should be compatible with all aircrew body-borne equipment configurations. Companies submitting information can present a total system or components of the system. All inquires or submissions must be sent to Roger Podob, Systems Engineer, at (301)342-8444 or Mike Schultz, Senior Systems Engineer, at (301)342-8451 Crashworthiness/Inflight Division, Building 2187, Suite 1280, 48110 Shaw Road, Patuxent River, MD 20670-1906. Fax:(301) 757-1803 E-mail:roger.podob@navy.mil or mike.schultz@navy.mil.
