Description
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), has a requirement for one (1) Pure Polycrystalline Beryllium Neutron Filter. The Beryllium block will be used by the NIST Center for Neutron Research in the Multi Axis Crystal Spectrometer to reject unwanted high energy neutrons. The Beryllium block shall have dimensions, purity, and physical characteristics so as to achieve desired performance as a neutron filter. NIST will evaluate the Beryllium block for chemical composition, density, grain distribution, compliance with limits on impurity content, and physical characteristics such as tensile strength and surface marks. The Contractor shall provide this Beryllium block along with a certified analysis of compliance with all NIST specifications. NIST will require a Certified Materials Analysis and samples. Prior to delivery, the Contractor shall be required to provide the first test sample, which will be delivered to NIST, for verification of compliance with Chemical purity and grain size specifications. Upon delivery of the Beryllium block, the Contractor shall provide a second materials sample and certification that the sample is representative of the actual Beryllium block. Samples shall be subject to Neutron Activation Analysis to determine impurity content and Neutron Diffraction to determine grain size and orientation distribution. A drawing of the required size and shape of the final Beryllium Filter Cone shall be provided along with the solicitation. ***FOB shall be DESTINATION, Gaithersburg, MD. ***The NAICS code for this requirement is 331528, with a small business size standard of 500 employees. This acquisition is unrestricted and all interested parties may submit a quote. ***The competitive Request for Quotation (RFQ), specifications, RFQ amendments, and all questions and answers related to this procurement shall be made available via the Internet at HTTP://WWW.FEDBIZOPPS.GOV under RFQ number SB1341-04-Q-0799. ***The RFQ is anticipated for release to the vendor community on or about August 24, 2004, and will only be available via the Internet at the above web site. ***Potential offerors are responsible for accessing the web site. Interested parties must respond to the RFQ in order to be considered for award of any resultant contract. No written solicitation document is available, telephone requests shall not be honored, and no bidders list shall be maintained. Potential offerors are requested to direct all questions via e-mail to Erin.Schwam@NIST.Gov.
