NAICS Code: 541710 NAICS Code: 541710 THIS IS A PRE-SOLICITATION SYNOPSIS FOR STUDENT LABORATORY SERVICES TO BE HIRED ON A CONTRACT BASIS BY THE US ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY. The solicitation number is XMV050 (RFQ - PR-RT-04-00942). The Western Ecology Division (WED) of the National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL), Office of Research and Development (ORD) at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking a recent Ph.D. graduate to provide services under a contractual agreement to assist with ecological modeling. Contractors must have received a Ph.D. within the past 2 years in ecology, wildlife biology, environmental science, biology or related field. Contractors must also be proficient in simulation modeling, as demonstrated by coursework and/or thesis project work. The contractor shall work with members of WED's Risk Characterization Branch in Corvallis, OR. Job duties shall support two ecological modeling teams involved in forecasting the effects of multiple, interacting stressors on habitat quality and wildlife populations. The contractor will need to work both independently and in a team, have experience developing species-habitat associations, and be comfortable working with computer models and database applications. The contractor shall work with the habitat modeling team to: 1. Select target wildlife species, 2.Develop species-habitat relationships for the selected wildlife species, 3. Produce maps of habitat distribution and temporal change that include modeled estimates of uncertainty. The contractor shall work with the wildlife response modeling team to: 1.Compile life history information for the selected wildlife species 2. Run the EPA wildlife simulation model to evaluate population trends for the selected wildlife species. 2. Assess the strengths and weaknesses of a wildlife simulation model. The contractor shall work with both teams to develop a case study of habitat change and wildlife response for western Oregon's South Santiam watershed. The contract period will be from on or about October 1, 2004 ? September 30, 2005 with two option periods that together total an additional 12 months. It is anticipated that the contractor will work up to 40 hours per week on this task. The duty location will be the EPA-WED laboratory in Corvallis, OR. EPA will provide all necessary computer hardware and software.
