Description

The purpose of the proposed action is to provide the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with a ready source within a 25 mile radius of the CDC campus in Atlanta Georgia with a clinical research center that will advertise, recruit and examine study participants. Further, it will draw and test blood from participants and will privide participants with the supplies needed for the study. The study requires blood samples being collected and transported the same day to the CDC for appropriate sample processing and analysis, which can not be performed outside the CDC. Therefore, the institution needs to be in close proximity to the laboratory to assure appropriate sample transfer. Since this is a feeding study, in which a large number of participants need to be processed within a short period of time (overall 600 visits within 5 weeks), the institution needs to be able to handle such a throughput and has experienced staff availible for appropriate care of the participants (i.e., nutritionist aside of nurses, phlebotomists and technicians). To minimize confounders of the study results, such as biological variability, the study should be completed in 6 months. This acqusition is a total Historical Black College and University (HBCU)set aside.
