Description
LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS PARTNERSHIPS WITH INDUSTRY TO FURTHER DEVELOP AND COMMERCIALIZE THE SIX-DEGREE-OF-FREEDOM (SixDOF) SENSOR Announcement: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking one or more industrial partners to commercialize LLNL's Six-Degree-of-Freedom (SixDOF) sensor. LLNL has developed and patented the Six-Degree-of-Freedom (SixDOF) sensor. It is a small, relatively low cost, non-contact sensor that increases the capability and flexibility of computer-controlled machines. It does this by detecting the sensor?s relative position to any mechanical part in all six-degrees-of-freedom by using a laser in combination with simple optics and position sensitive detectors (PSD?s). It has the potential to significantly improve data collection speed and accuracy compared to prior art. It is estimated to be about 200 times faster and 25 times more accurate than current three-degree-of-freedom sensors. It can be produced using loose manufacturing tolerances and inexpensive materials, is easily calibrated, and is micro-scale accurate. Potential applications include: manufacturing automation; aviation quality control; computing; robotic surgery; hazardous materials handling. Moving critical technology beyond the Laboratory to the commercial world helps our U.S. licensees gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. The University of California?s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory can license technology through exclusive or nonexclusive licensing agreements, as appropriate. All projects are conducted under policies relating to the strict nondisclosure of company proprietary information. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT.
