Description
The National Institute on Aging (NIA), National Institutes of Health, has a requirement to develop, maintain, and distribute a large standing colony of aged F344 rats for use by investigators in the studies of aging. This colony is intended to replace the existing aged F344 rat colony developed under NIA contract N01-AG-7-2113. During the nine-year period of performance of this contract, the expected colony population will range from 8,000 the first year, to a peak of 28,000 during years three through seven, then declining to near zero by the ninth year. This animal colony shall be divided into two, approximately equal, separate segments. Each segment shall be maintained behind a totally independent barrier, specific pathogen- and parasite free, for the entire contract period. Both segments shall specifically be in helicobacter-negative barriers. The Offeror shall have facilities suitable for development and maintenance of the rat strains required for this project, along with experience in breeding, rearing, and maintaining and distributing colonies of similar size. The Offeror should also have an awareness of problems and complications likely to be observed conducting this project, the methods to address them, and knowledge of the importance of maintenance of the high standards of genetic purity. THIS SOLICITATION WILL BE AVAILABLE ELECTRONICALLY ONLY. The solicitation will be issued on or about August 8, 2003 and will be posted on this web site and at http://ocm.od.nih.gov/drc/rfp.htm. Offerors are responsible for routinely checking these web sites for any amendments to the solicitation. Proposals will be due one hundred ten (110) calendar days after the date of issuance of the solicitation or as specified in the solicitation. All responsible sources may submit a proposal, which will be considered by the Government. No collect calls will be accepted. NOTE: THIS NOTICE MAY HAVE POSTED ON WWW.FEDBIZOPPS.GOV ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (12-NOV-2003). IT ACTUALLY APPEARED OR REAPPEARED ON THE FEDBIZOPPS SYSTEM ON 24-JUN-2004, BUT REAPPEARED IN THE FTP FEED FOR THIS POSTING DATE. PLEASE CONTACT fbo.support@gsa.gov REGARDING THIS ISSUE.
