- Description
- The U. S. Army Research Office (ARO) announces the availability of Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) No. W911NF-04-R-0009 for Experimental and Theoretical Development of Quantum Computers dated June 2004. ARO, together with the Advanced Research and D evelopment Activity (ARDA), solicits research proposals for the following four categories: (1) Quantum Computing Concept Maturation proposals are for large scale, four-year combined experimental and theoretical studies of potential physical embodiments of quantum bits and quantum logic, perhaps including studies in the related fields of quantum error correction, control, decoherence, and entanglement. (2) Short-Term, Innovative Concept proposals are for smaller, short-term (1-3 year) experimental or theor etical studies exploring new quantum computing concepts that could engender a larger scale project in the future. (3) Quantum Algorithm proposals are for three-year studies to primarily develop new quantum computing algorithms but may also consider issue s of quantum computational complexity and computability. (4) Quantum Computing Graduate Research Fellows, or QuaCGR Fellows, proposals are for three-year fellowships for graduate students who are U.S. citizens working on quantum computing for investigato rs funded or requesting funding through the ARO/ARDA quantum computing program. Each proposal should indicate how the proposed work will conform to or extend beyond the quantum computing roadmap found at http://qist.lanl.gov. Milestones in the proposed p roject should be clearly linked to the roadmap. The BAA solicitation contains additional information along with instructions for white paper and proposal preparation and submission. Informal white papers must be received at ARO by 4:00 P.M. Eastern Dayli ght Savings Time on Wednesday, August 25, 2004. Informal white papers are required prior to proposal submission. Proposals must be received at ARO by 4:00 PM Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, November 2, 2004. Electronic submission of white papers and p roposals is required. This BAA may be found on the ARO website at http://www.aro.army.mil/research/index.htm.
