Description

TVA is soliciting proposals for completing its Regenesys Plant located in Columbus, Mississippi. TVA began the Regenesys project in 1999. Construction of the facility began in 2000 on approximately 3 acres. The facility is approximately 85% complete. The facility is currently designed for a redox flow battery based on sodium and bromine chemistry, which was intended to supply 12 MW for 10 hours nominally to Columbus Air Force Base (CAFB) in order to reduce line loading into the base during peak hours, provide near UPS backup support for critical systems at the base, and to provide VAR support to the TVA grid. The plant was designed to be versatile so that a number of energy storage modes could be explored and their value to TVA evaluated. TVA desires to dispose of the facility in a manner that would represent the best overall value to TVA. This could include multiple options, including, but not limited to, revenue from a sale, lease or license, revenue from future power generation, as well as other energy technologies that may be adaptable to the site.
