Description
The National Park Service, Harpers Ferry Center, is issuing a Request for Information for review of a proposed contract for the management of it's National sign program. Work under this contract includes the planning and design of new and replacement signs, and the manufacture, installation and replacement of signs and interpretive wayside exhibits. All work shall be in accordance with the National Park Service UniGuide Standards for all units of the National Park System. The signs produced under the standards include a wide-range of types (e.g., park entrance and facility identity, motorist guidance, pedestrian wayfinding, safety, interpretive, and general information) as well as related hardware (e.g., trash bag dispensers, outdoor bulletin cases, and brochure dispensers). Sign structures are fabricated in a variety of materials including wood, steel, and aluminum, and less frequently in concrete, stone, and brick; sign panel materials include porcelain enamel, high density laminates, fiberglass embedments, cut vinyl, routed wood, and applied retro-reflective overlays. The work will include the development of an automated data system to enable online ordering and to serve as a repository of sign plans and other files necessary for inventories and reorders. Speed of delivery is essential, and will require an inventory of hardware components and a standard sign catalog. The National Park Service is an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior with units in 49 states as well as Guam and the Virgin Islands. It is responsible for the management of over 388 parks, which represent over 83 million acres of land visited annually by over 300 million people from around the world. Park visitors travel along 8,000 miles of roads and 14,000 miles of trails to reach a range of destinations. NAICS Code is 339950, Sign Manufacturing. The Request for Information Package will be released on May 27, 2004.
