Description
This is a SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS for market research purposes. The National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) is seeking Contractors with expertise in the fabrication and building of a large high vacuum chamber for cryogenic operations. Detailed information on the Contractor?s experience and expertise in building the same or similar equipment must be sent to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Acquisition and Logistics Division, Attn: Carol A. Wood, Contract Specialist, 100 Bureau Drive, Mail Stop 3571, Gaithersburg, MD 20899-3571. Submission must be received by 3:00 p.m. local time on May 21, 2004. Original submissions are required. Contractors shall identify their business size, (small, small-disadvantaged, hub-zone, large etc.) in accordance with North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing; the Small Business Size Standard is 500 employees. THIS NOTICE DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS ? IT IS FOR MARKET RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY. FINALIZE DESIGN AND BUILD LARGE HIGH VACUUM CHAMBER FOR CRYOGENIC OPERATIONS The Low Background Infrared (LBIR) facility performs infrared radiometric measurements in 20 K background environments under ultrahigh vacuum conditions. The LBIR facility is currently seeking another vacuum chamber to supplement the current capabilities. The chamber must be cylindrical in shape, approximately 48 inches in diameter, 90 inches in length, have approximately 30 conflat ports ranging in size from 2.75 inches diameter to 14.00 inches diameter and open lengthwise through its center in a clamshell configuration with the sealing surface approximately 30 degrees from horizontal. The clamshell opening seal shall be a double o-ring seal with a volume between the two o-rings that can be evacuated. The clamshell shall open with a hinge with an axis in the plane of the sealing surface on the upper side of the clamshell. An opening mechanism shall be part of the package. The chamber shall also have support structures such that four air cushion vibration isolation feet can be placed under it. The chamber, its rough dimensions, and its proposed support structures and opening mechanism are shown in the file ?Clamshell_Vacuum_Chamber_040312.doc? with its air cushion vibration isolation feet. The air cushion vibration isolation feet will not be part of the requirement. E-MAIL REQUESTS FOR THIS DOCUMENT MUST BE SENT TO CAROL.WOOD@NIST.GOV. During fabrication no working lubricants which contain sulfur or silicone shall be used. Only water-soluble cutting fluids are permitted. The chamber shall be made of stainless steel and all interior surfaces shall have a #2 finish or be electropolished. Exterior surfaces shall have a # 32 finish or better. When empty and clean the chamber shall be able to support a vacuum of 3 x 10-8 Torr or better when being pumped on by a turbo pump with a pumping speed of 2000 liters/second through a 12 inch flange and gate valve.
