- Who: Product Manager- Land Warrior Where: Building 4649, 3225 Deglopper Street, Fort Bragg, NC 28307-5000 When: 12 & 13 May 2004, 0900-1500 hours What: Hand-held, battlefield computer hardware devices. Why: Select candidate hardware devices meeting Land Warrior and Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below (FBCB2) requirements. How: Original Equipment Manufacturers will have 40-minutes to present candidate device (mass mock-ups are acceptable) and demonstrate capabilities. Followed by a question and answer session from the Product Manager and a soldier and engineer panel. Ideal Hardware Candidate Description: ????MATURITY: Commercial Off the Shelf ????HARDENING: MILSTD-810F ????DISPLAY: From 6??????x4?????? up to 8.5??????x11??????; color display; direct sunlight readable and readable using night vision device. ????PROCESSOR: Capable of running the FBCB2 3.5.5 and 6.4 application (1Ghz processor with 1GB RAM). ????MEMORY: Target of 5 ?????? 20 GB. Sufficient to match platform capabilities and store FBCB2 map library (to include DTED). ????POWER: AC adapter (110 & 220v); Commercial disposable and rechargeable batteries; NATO 24v vehicle power adapter and mounting bracket. 8-hour run time on a disposable power source. ????COMMUNICATIONS: L-Band antenna and transceiver; PRC-148 interface; Iridium satellite phone interface; PSC-5 interface; Secure Wireless LAN card. Antenna extension kit (like the GPS hockey puck) to facilitate use in a vehicle or building. ????SECURITY: NSA Type I certification ????USER INTERFACE: Hands-free display, USB port and cables to connect PCs. External microphone, speakers and adapter for Sordin headset. Integrated hard or soft keyboard. ????POSITION/NAVIGATION: Secure GPS ????ACCESSORIES: Tactical carrying pouch permitting the device to be in operation while soldier is on the move. Shipping box for device, accessories, and operator??????s manual (e.g., pelican/ storm). ????WEIGHT INCLUDING POWER SOURCE (less accessories): less than 3 pounds END STATE: Product Manager-Land Warrior will invite selected hardware candidate vendors to provide prototypes as a directed subcontractor on the Land Warrior-Stryker Interoperable contract and may produce as many as 7,000 devices given Army approval of fun ds. FIELD DEMONSTRATION: Product Manager-Land Warrior will evaluate the selected hardware candidate during a field demonstration in October 2004 in preparation for extended field trials with 600 units beginning November 2004.
