Description
The BEP is interested in fostering the development of an inexpensive, small “pocket size” device that will be used to determine the denomination of US currency notes for the blind and low vision community. This reader must be able to determine the denomination of all series 1996 currency and newer designs, including the upcoming 2003 designs, as well as the existing $1 denomination design. Technology exists in series 1996 and newer currency designs that may facilitate a reliable, cost-effective method to denominate currency. This technology can be revealed to all interested and reputable parties, with accompanying confidentiality agreements. The Bureau welcomes the opportunity to work with colleges, universities, non-profit organizations, public institutions, and private sector organizations. Interested parties can review a draft specification, which can be downloaded from the Federal Business Opportunities (FedBizOpps) website at www.eps.gov. This is a SOURCES SOUGHT announcement only. Solicitations are not available at this time, and as such any request for a solicitation will not receive a response. This notice does not constitute a commitment by the Government. At this point, the BEP does not intend to set up a contract for this supply, but would like to receive comments on the draft specification as part of a market research to determine interest and capability of potential sources for this requirement. All information submitted in response to this announcement is voluntary; the Government will not pay for information requested nor will it compensate any respondent for any cost incurred in developing information provided to the Government. Interested parties should send comments on the draft specifications and questions regarding this requirement by the COB 12/5/03 to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), Office of Procurement, Attn: Michele R. Winston, 14th and C Sts, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20228-0001 or e-mail to michele.winston@bep.treas.gov.
