Description

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service in Albany, California has a requirement for one (1) cabinet x-ray system with real-time (digital images) capability; microfocus source, image intensifier, and detectors with resolution better than 100 microns. System must have capability to identify small defects in apples, such as insect infestation. X-ray source, 10 - 110 kVp, 0.05 mm focal spot size, 3.0 micro-amps tube current; exposure timer 5 sec ? 60 min with one-second increments; power requirements 110 ? 120 VAC/60 Hz. Imaging achieved through the use of an x-ray image intensifier device coupled with a high resolution CCD camera (min 512 x 480 lines) with a minimum image area of 4-inch diameter. The high-resolution video image may be analyzed with an image processing system and stored for later review. The cabinet must be equipped with external manipulators so the subject can be moved while being x-rayed; inspection samples are orientated for optimum imaging via a motorized manipulator with x-y-z-tilt rotate joystick control. Must be radiation shielded for operator safety and comply with Government safety criteria (21 CFR 1020.40).
